Welcome to the home page of the Computational Climate research group at the University of British Columbia! The lab is led by Marysa Laguë, and Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Geography. We study land-atmosphere interactions and climate dynamics, and develop and use numerical Earth system models.

Ecosystems as Climate Drivers

How do vegetation, ecosystems, and land-surface processes shape climate?

We investigate how forests, carbon cycling, water use, and other terrestrial processes influence temperatures, clouds, atmospheric circulation, and the global energy budget.

Land-Atmosphere Feedbacks and Sensitivity in the Earth System

Why do some changes matter more than others?

We study the mechanisms that amplify or dampen climate responses, identifying where the atmosphere is most sensitive to terrestrial change and which land-surface properties exert the strongest influence on climate.

Climate Across Space and Time

What can past, future, and planetary climates teach us about Earth?

We use idealized models, paleoclimate simulations, future climate projections, and planetary climates to uncover fundamental principles governing coupled climate systems.

The Computational Climate research group is part of the Department of Geography at the University of British Columbia. We live and work on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. The research group honour’s their longstanding and ongoing relationship with these lands.
